Vermont offers classic New England fishing with Lake Champlain, hundreds of mountain trout streams, and pristine backcountry ponds. Lake Champlain provides outstanding lake trout, landlocked salmon, and bass fishing. The Green Mountains feature hundreds of wild brook trout streams, and the Connecticut River forms the eastern border offering smallmouth bass and walleye. The Northeast Kingdom is famous for its remote trout ponds.
Fishing Regulations
- Daily limits cannot be combined between rivers/streams and lakes/ponds.
- For species with defined harvest seasons, targeted catch-and-release angling allowed outside harvest season with artificial lures and flies.
- Lake sturgeon, sauger, anadromous Atlantic salmon: no open season.
- American shad: catch and release only (no harvest).
- Muskellunge: catch and release with artificial lures and flies only.
