New York Fishing Regulations
Not legal advice. Compiled from official government summaries. Regulations change each year — always check the official source before relying.
General Rules (barbless hooks are the #1 cause of fines)
- ⚠ New York has 9 fishing regions; statewide limits apply unless the specific water is listed in the Special Regulations by county/water.
- ⚠ Trout: many waters have special regulations (artificial lures only, catch-and-release, reduced limits) - check the special regs list.
- ⚠ Muskellunge: min size varies by water (30-54 in).
- ⚠ Possession limit is the same as the daily limit unless noted.
